It is with great sadness that the Village of Oak Park announces that Oak Park Police Detective Allan Reddins was killed Friday, Nov. 29 in the line of duty while responding to a call involving an armed offender.
The Oak Park Police Department is working to raise public awareness of some common crimes of the season by offering the tips to help reduce the chances of becoming a victim.

The Village is launching an Alternative Response to Calls for Service Pilot Program with the goal of enhancing overall community well-being and offering a compassionate alternative to emergency calls related to mental health.
The Village is seeking feedback from residents and other stakeholders about a range of topics including economic vitality in Oak Park and whether an electric shuttle could help meet the community's tranportation needs.
Oak Park’s neighborhood climate coaching initiative is a partnership between the Village and the volunteer group Oak Park Climate Action Network (OPCAN) that offers a peer-expert advisory service to help residents navigate various pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Village is seeking input from the community as it develops a five-year Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development. A town hall meeting is planned for Oct. 10 and an online survey is available.
The Village of Oak Park is offering collection of used textiles and small household items as part of its ongoing effort to help residents reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. The textile service is provided by Simple Recycling and is free to all Oak Park residents.
The Oak Park Public Health Department is celebrating 75 years as a state-certified local health department in 2024. Oak Park sustains one of only a handful of municipal-level public health departments with this distinction.
